Our second stop took us to northern Oregon, and traveling the length of Oregon's coast, our Ford F-250 Power Stroke/Komfort trailer combo passed some of the best sights along the West Coast. There are the aforementioned beaches, miles of forest, the vast stretches of Oregon's dunes, and much more. We made a lunch stop at one of our favorite eating places, the Lighthouse restaurant in South Beach (just south of Newport), which serves up the best Halibut fish and chips we've ever had.
In northern Oregon, we stayed at the Wilson River RV Park, just east from Tillamook, and cradled along the banks of the Wilson River. This park has 69 sites, with 60 of them having full hookups. We again had the benefit of cable TV hookups, and the view out of our back window was indeed beautiful-a flowing river, towering mountain full of tall pines, and billowy white clouds against a dazzling blue sky. Come here during the fall Salmon run and you're in for a real treat, a chance to catch as big as a 40-pound Salmon right from the banks!
While in northern Oregon, we hiked to fantastic waterfalls, saw the largest Sitka Spruce tree in the world, visited the Tillamook cheese company, and spent time at numerous state parks, which are some of the finest in the nation.
And while in Oregon, don't forget the great seafood. Sure, there's great restaurants, but we opted to buy our seafood super-fresh and cook it up in the fifth-wheel. Salmon, Sole, Lingcod, fresh oysters and clams, we sampled them all, and you can't beat the Oregon-based seafood for its freshness and flavor. We particularly enjoyed an Oregon favorite, Razor Clams, and you won't find a more sweet or delicious clam around.
The Oregon coast has so much to offer it's impossible to see even a good sampling in a week, so we're sure to be back, hopefully for a longer adventure!
