Diesel Nitrous System - Diesel Tech
RESULTS
The chart tells the story. Note that our increase in performance
was close to 100 hp greater than the bone-stock
output—a huge improvement.
BASELINE
183 hp at 3,250 rpm
FAST-FLASH TUNE
215 hp at 3,350 rpm
55hp JET
230 hp at 3,350 rpm
75hp JET
242 hp at 3,400 rpm
100hp JET
354 hp at 3,350 rpm
150hp JET
278 hp at 3,400 rpm
The diesel nitrous system-arming switch needs to be mounted in the interior of the truck in a place where it can be reached easily. Note that the cover avoids accidental activation.
First, we performed a baseline test on the F-250 diesel on the Comp Cams chassis dyno. The amount of corrected horsepower at the tire: 183. Not overwhelming.
The Fast-Flash Power Programmer plugs into the computer system through the diagnostic port located under the dash. The programmer provides easy instructions every step of the way, allowing you to increase the fuel flow to match the differing levels of nitrous oxide being injected into the engine. In our case, we dialed the fuel delivery to the street-performance setting, which provided more than enough extra fuel for the nitrous test.
After reprogramming for additional fuel, ZEX Product Manager Matt Patrick installed the 55hp jet. The jet change takes about one minute to complete. The result of the 55hp jet change and programming: an additional 47 hp. Why the difference between the projected horsepower and the real horsepower achieved? Tuning time. If we continued adding fuel with the Fast-Flash Programmer, that nitrous jet would support up to its rated power.
