2008 Ford F250 Powerstroke Buildup - 500HP Power Stroke Upgrades

The catalyst and DPF on the new Fords are huge. We wouldn't be surprised if we lost 50 pounds of weight by going to a straight-pipe.

The OEM air intake flows plenty of air for a stock engine, but once the power is turned up, more airflow is needed.

To solve our intake problem, we picked up an S&B air filtration system from Diesel Innovations.

Installing the intake hose supplied with the kit was perhaps the hardest step of the intake upgrade. We used a lot of muscle and a screwdriver to slide it over the turbo inlet.

Not only did the S&B air filter improve our truck's looks, it added performance. S&B will custom engrave your airbox lid if you order the intake online.

The drag cars must have wondered what we were doing there with an 8,100-pound truck. Despite the massive weight of the Ford, we were able to keep up with a turbocharged Dodge SRT-4 and a '68 Hemi Charger.

On the track, our modded 6.4L Ford Power Stroke blistered through the eighth-mile to the tune of 8.59 seconds at 79 mph. Using the National Hot Rod Association's correction factors of 1.57 and 1.25 respectively, we arrived at a quarter-mile time of 13.48 seconds at 99 mph. Not bad for just a couple of mods!

Loading the SCT was pretty straightforward after we downloaded some custom tunes via laptop. On our testdrive the difference was incredible. Before, we couldn't even spin the tires, but after the intake, exhaust, and custom tunes from Innovative Diesel, we could break the tires loose in the first three gears.
