1997 Ford F350 Heavy Hauler Installation - Bulletproof Transmission
Once the stock transmission... Once the stock transmission and torque converter were out and drained, they were set next to their replacements. Notice the Mag-Hytec deep pan on the NADP transmission, as well as the billet steel cover on our new triple-disc converter. All of NADP's Heavy Hauler transmissions come with a one-year/15,534 mile warranty, are run on a dyno and tested before leaving its facility, and are built to handle 700 lb-ft of torque. | After closely inspecting the... After closely inspecting the input shaft on our stock transmission, we found that the Teflon sealing ring for the converter clutch was toast (green seal). | It's obvious the stock seal... It's obvious the stock seal was on its last leg when compared to the new one (orange seal). | Next, Inglewood Transmission's... Next, Inglewood Transmission's crew placed the new transmission on the transmission jack and coupled the new torque converter with its input shaft. | Before installing the new... Before installing the new transmission, they used the Kooler Kleen flush that NADP supplied us with and thoroughly cleaned all our transmission cooler lines. Cleaning old return lines is vital and removes any dirt, sludge, grease, or metal shavings that cooler lines could still be contaminated with. In the future, we plan to upgrade to larger-diameter 3⁄8-inch cooler lines for further cooling improvement. | Then we raised the transmission... Then we raised the transmission up and bolted it to the flexplate (which had to be rotated between each bolt being tightened in order to gain access to all the bolts), bolted on the flexplate cover, and then swapped the transmission linkage from the stock unit onto the new one. | With the new transmission... With the new transmission bolted in place, the old gasket on the transfer case was scraped off and replaced with a new one, then re-installed behind the new transmission. | Next, the front driveshaft... Next, the front driveshaft was connected to the front of the transfer case, and the rear driveshaft was bolted back up to the rear of the transfer case. Then our transmission temperature sender, dipstick, and all other wiring were reinstalled. | We chose to run Royal Purple's... We chose to run Royal Purple's synthetic Max ATF in our new NADP transmission. And with our new E4OD's Mag-Hytec deep transmission pan, 18 quarts were required to top off its fluid level, which is three quarts more than stock. |
