To finish off, we replaced the factory cast-iron exhaust manifolds with ceramic-coated shorty headers from Edelbrock (PN66492). Unfortunately, Edelbrock only offers cat-back exhaust systems for pickup trucks, so we had to keep the stock exhaust. | Turns out, we were able to... Turns out, we were able to put the gas engine back together again. If only it could've been as effortless as upgrading the Power Stroke. | The Power Stroke made more... The Power Stroke made more than a healthy exhaust note on the dyno. Our first run of the day yielded 250 hp at 3,000 rpm and 453 lb-ft at 2,750 rpm. | Notice that the Power Stroke... Notice that the Power Stroke didn't make peak horsepower and then drop off quickly (green line, top chart). It made 250 hp starting at 2,900 rpm, and held it until roughly 3,400 rpm. Not bad considering peak horsepower when the truck was stock (directly below it) came at 3,000 rpm, then fell off rapidly. Also, notice how much smoother the power band looks in both horsepower and torque when compared to stock. Overall, we gained 90 horsepower at the same rpm, and 171 lb-ft (201 lb-ft when power-braking) over stock. | |
