 Ford Power Stroke Transmission

Picture this: you've installed a new programmer that adds 150-plus horsepower and more than 200 lb-ft of torque to your 7.3L Power Stroke. The only problem is, your E40D-4R100 automatic transmission is having trouble dealing with all the extra juice surging through the drivetrain. Luckily, many new programmers will read diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) caused by an ailing transmission.

Pat Barrett of Level 10 Power has been working with Fords since 1973, including a super-strong transmission build for a powerful twin-turbo Expedition that was sold only in Africa and the Middle East. He's compiled this chart full of trouble codes along with the affected components, a description of the problem, the symptoms it will cause, and the action you need to take to fix it. So if you're already getting a transmission trouble code, take a look at the chart. If you're not, read the chart anyway so you're ready when trouble arises. Put this issue in a safe place so you can reference it when your Power Stroke gets too powerful for your slush box.
