The Mileage Report
Here's the running tally for each installment of this series. Mileage numbers are generated on the same 250-mile mixed freeway and city street circuit and are hand-calculated by noting miles driven and fuel used from the same pump at the same fuel station. Numbers are the average of at least three test circuits.
Stock 15.55 MPG
S&B Cold Air Intake 16.31 MPG
S&B Cold Air Intake + Snugtop Xtra Vision 17.30 MPG
Hidden Benefit To Date 1.75 MPG
After waiting for the liner... After waiting for the liner to fully cure, we headed down to SnugTop's headquarters in Long Beach, California, to meet our new Xtra Vision truck cap. The company installed the unit for us, tapping an existing 12-volt wire from the trailer wiring harness to power the cap's interior and third brake light and adjusted the lift glass for trouble-free, smooth operation. Notice the sliding front window in the cap that allows access or ventilation to the bed from the cab. | The Xtra Vision shell features... The Xtra Vision shell features large sliding side windows with screens to keep the bugs out and the pets in and a nice lockable rear glass hatch. The flush rotary locking mechanism ensured snag-free washing and a slick look. Best of all, the SnugTop unit had a lifetime structural and paint warranty. | For us, the versatility afforded... For us, the versatility afforded by a truck bed cap can't be beat. Whether it's creating a dry, lockable place to keep valuable equipment, or offering a safe harbor in which to take refuge from windblown sand, our SnugTop shell comes in handy on a daily basis. And then there's the extra mileage it netted us as well. |
The front glass folds inward... The front glass folds inward for cleaning, the interior has a full headliner, and the interior light and sliding rear windows are nice features not offered in some other manufacturer's products. Check back next month when we'll see what larger tires and aluminum wheels do to our mileage numbers. | | |
