Dodge Ram Mega Cab Long Bed - Diesel Tech
This is the final result of the rear frame extensions. next, the whole frame received a special rubberized undercoating to protect the metal from corrosion. | Shown here is one of the new forward bed mounts that Innovative Customs installs as part of the conversion. It is critical that these mounts are perfectly matched to the location of the original bed mounts because these dictate whether or not the body lines will match up. | This is the same forward-most bed mount seen earlier. However, this shot was taken after the undercoating was completed. notice how the C-shaped notch of the frame sleeve matches the way the factory does them-this provides more weld surface area, therefore making the connection stronger. It's these little details that also make it hard to tell what's stock and what's not. | Here is the same section, as shown in the prior photo, except that this shot was taken from the driver side of the truck before the final welding took place. notice how the underside of the sleeve is plug-welded to the frame, as well as to the sides. | With frame modifications completed, it was time to reinstall the rear bumper. Hardman had no trouble sliding the bumper into place on the new extensions. | After the frame was finished, the team from Innovative Customs extended the emergency brake cable, electrical harness, and fuel lines. They also replaced the factory drive shaft with a longer unit. Then, it was time to place the 8-foot bed on the truck and ensure that all the bodylines matched up. As expected, the new bed fit perfectly. | On our way back to California, we stopped in Las vegas, nevada, to pick up a brand-new 40-foot-long toy hauler fifth wheel. Thanks to the additional bed-space provided by the conversion, we were able to hitch up the 18,000-pound behemoth without the help of a fancy slider-style fifth wheel hitch. The longer bed does take a little getting-used-to around town. However, on the highway, the truck rides smoothly and feels more surefooted than it did before. | WHILE WE WERE THERE We decided to have the innovative customs also install a KORE Technical Series suspension system, a set of AMP Research running boards, a B&W turn-over ball fifth-wheel hitch combo, a brake controller, an AFE exhaust system, and a blade Runner intake, as well as a set of Ready-Lift air bags. Everything Innovative touched turned out perfectly. After running the truck for more than 8,000 miles with no problems, we were convinced that Hardman and Fausett have secured themselves a unique niche in the industry that few will follow. | Innovative Customs Innovative Customs Is A Full-Service Performance fabrication shop capable of installing any type of aftermarket product available.
