Everything they learned during the first two conversions was perfected on truck number three. With each additional conversion came further refinement. From CnC-bent stainless steel brake lines, to a trick OEM-style electrical harness, the result looks factory. Innovative Customs even goes as far as to have each and every conversion certified by a state-licensed welding inspector who drafts a report highlighting the frame modifications. We like this because it provides the customer with pictures and documentation about the conversion process, formatted like a magazine article.
Now, with more than 25 conversions under their belts, we decided that it was time to showcase the process and have our own '07 Mega Cab long bed built. Follow along as the capable team of Innovative Customs supersizes our 3/4-ton Cummins-powered Ram.
Our initial impression of Innovative Customs began with a tour of its facility, where we noticed several short beds sitting in a storage area. We inquired about the destination of these units and were told that they were already sold to a dismantler who pays a premium for short beds. The value of the customer's short bed is deducted from the cost of the Mega Cab long-bed conversion, making the average conversion quite affordable at only $6,500.00 out the door. | With the vehicle secured safely on a lift, bed off and ready for the conversion process, the team from Innovative Customs got started by removing the fuel tank. | Next, Landon Fausett installed a temporary steel brace between each frame rail and the rear axle housing to lock out the rear suspension. This procedure kept everything the same throughout the frame-stretching procedure. |
