Diesel Power was on-hand this week in Columbus, Indiana, as Cummins announced their state-of-the-art powerhouse, the ISV5.0 V8 5-liter diesel engine. Packed full with all of the latest Cummins technology, this fuel efficient engine is suited for pickup and delivery vehicles, school buses, light- and medium-duty trucks and motorhomes. It has great midrange and drivability, and reportedly has little lag. Cummins combustion technology contributes to its cleanness and efficiency. This engine will be manufactured at the Columbus Engine Plant, starting during the fourth quarter of 2014. -Advanced ceramic glow plugs reduce startup time and last the life of the engine.
-Bosch HPCR (High Pressure Common Rail) fuel system with higher injection pressures and Piezo fuel injectors aid optimal combustion for improved fuel economy and reduced emissions.
-Aftertreatment System from Cummins Emission Solutions that delivers near-zero emissions through use of a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR); also utilizes cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR).
-Horsepower/Torque: 200-275 hp / 520-560 lb.-ft.
