Amtrak's Beef By-Product
Here's what happens when you mix Amtrak, the Oklahoma and Texas state transportation departments, and the Heartland Flyer train: an interstate passenger train participating in the nation's first test of a clean, renewable, biodiesel fuel blend. The Federal Railroad Administration gave Amtrak $274,000 to do the project with the Oklahoma DOT, and the locomotive runs between Oklahoma City and Fort Worth on a daily basis. And, yes, the blend contains the aforementioned beef by-product. Amtrak will give the EPA emissions data at the end of the 12-month experiment.
Nissan and Daimler Partner Up
Renault-Nissan Alliance and Daimler are hooking up to share parts, including diesel and gasoline powertrains. Renault and Nissan will provide three- and four-cylinder engines to Daimler, which will then adapt them for Mercedes. Meanwhile, Daimler will provide four- and six-cylinder engines to Infiniti. And Nissan, Renault, and Daimler will work together to develop all-new engines for the future.
