Oops ... GM Changes Web Site Name
Whygas.com had just launched as a site to promote GM's medium-duty gas engines. But in a time when alternative fuels are what all the hipsters are talking about, it was very quickly renamed Whygasengines.com. True, there's a lot of info about the gas engines here, but on the site, you'll also find "Diesel Emissions Update" and the diesel engine specs and data right alongside the gas ones. And, as of press time, you could still get a travel mug simply for swinging by.
Dodge Goes Underground
A specially modified Dodge Ram with the 5.9L Cummins has been knighted He Who Can Be Used for Underground Mining Applications, making it the only OEM pickup that can claim so, according to Dodge. The mining version has a detuned 175hp 5.9L inline-six approved by the Mine Safety and Health Administration, meaning the emissions are way reduced, thereby cutting down on ventilation costs for mines.
We suspect the R&D that went into building the mining version of the Dodge Ram also helped pave the way for the Bluetec 6.7L calibration.
Save the Balls
If you had to start listing recognizable logos and mascots, you'd probably get stuck after the first five fingers. But we bet the Union 76 globe would make the initial cut, and www.savethe76ball.com wants too keep it that way. The campaign-crazy (in a good way) folks behind the site created a petition to stop Union 76's owner, ConocoPhillips, from destroying the balls-and it worked. They say the balls coming off the poles are no longer being maimed but are instead being preserved for donation to museums About 100 gas stations in the West will get a new 76 ball; it'll be red, not orange. They still have an active petition, though, which covers everything from ConocoPhillips footing the bill to ship donated 76 balls to museums, keeping a few historical balls in place, and allowing individuals access to them. Heh, we said "balls."
Mitsubishi and Peugeot's Diesel Plan
M&P have put their John Hancocks on an agreement that Peugeot Citron will supply diesel engines to Mitsubishi Motors, specifically the 2.2L common-rail, direct-injection diesel in mid-2007. It'll have a Peugeot Citron- patented particulate filter. Mitsu has just introduced its Outlander SUV to Europe, and near the end of this year, it will be a recipient of the diesel, as will the Peugeot 4007 and Citron C-Crosser.
