Whether you drive a 1-ton dualie, a Volkswagen TDI, or a Mercedes-Benz grease car, you don't truly know how much diesel power is under the hood until you've strapped it to a dynamometer. Just because a flashy part claims it will add 100 ponies doesn't mean that power will reach the ground, and adding up multiple power ratings on top of the stock engine rating is pointless. The OEM rates the engine at the flywheel, so even your base number will be off by about 30 percent.
That's why we've compiled a giant list of dyno locations so you can get your diesel rated and find out the real power being made by your oil-burner. The locations listed were gathered from the dyno manufacturers' Web sites. Wherever possible, phone numbers have been updated, Web sites have been added, and dynos not open to the public (such as those used by technical colleges) have been removed.
That doesn't mean you can just show up and expect a dyno run. Almost every shop requires an appointment for a dyno session, and some locations may not be able to accommodate your truck if it has dual rear wheels or blows heavy black smoke.
