Chris Fesler's project began with a black '05 GMC Sierra HD shortbed Crew Cab with a Duramax 6.6L turbodiesel. GMC calls the Sierra "Professional Grade," which basically means it's built for power, endurance, and functionality. Towing capacity is a major feature of a truck this size and definitely something Chris wanted to preserve. In fact, the major objective of lowering the Sierra was to test the truck's functionality as a tow vehicle with its new, lowered stance.
As a first step, Chris had to make some decisions about which suspension equipment would work best to achieve the desired look. For the actual installation, Chris relied on the Super Duty Headquarters, based in Mesa, Arizona. The selected parts were DJM Suspension's lowering kit, supplemented with Air Lift airbags. DJM's kit for the Sierra fits both two- and four-wheel-drive applications (like this truck) and is designed for a 3-inch drop in the front and a 5-inch drop in the rear. The additional installation of the Air Lift assist 'bags provides increased spring support to keep the ride height stable when towing. To match the new stance, a set of 22-inch black chrome Raceline wheels and BFGoodrich g-Force KDWs replace the factory rolling stock.
The pickup's exterior color scheme is straight black. Front and rear bumpers, the Goodmark cowl induction hood, and even the taillights and windows were blacked out. Other exterior changes include color-matched N-Fab Harley bars, a Trenz billet grille, and Schefenacker's telescoping trailer tow mirrors with heated glass and clearance lights. A Wise Industries Bedrug and motor-operated SnugTop tonneau cover protect whatever Chris puts in the bed.

A look at the engine bay shows off the aFe intake and additional battery power. Chris installed an Optima YellowTop in the original battery location, plus another Optima auxiliary battery to support the entertainment equipment. |
