Ford 6 7L Powerstroke Diesel Engine Air Flow
Air flows into the 6.7L through a filter mounted behind the passenger-side headlight and into the lower intake manifold to feed the turbo. Compressed air exits the turbo and is routed to an air-to-water intercooler mounted near the driver-side inner fender. The cooled air is then fed into the engine where it blends with EGR and is ducted via the upper intake manifold through the aluminum valve covers that deliver air to the intake valves.

Ford 6 7L Powerstroke Diesel Engine Exhaust Flow
The exhaust flows out of the cylinder heads through manifolds mounted in the lifter valley of the engine. Two short up-pipes feed the turbine housing, which uses both variable geometry and an externally actuated wastegate. The exhaust downpipe then runs to the exhaust system mounted on the passenger side of the truck. The EGR system takes exhaust from the front of the engine and routes it through coolers mounted on top of the passenger-side valve cover.

Ford 6 7L Powerstroke Diesel Engine Egr System
The EGR system is radically different from what is found on the 6.4L Power Stroke, Duramax, and Cummins engines. The EGR comes out of the passenger-side exhaust manifold and is throttled with a hot-side EGR valve before entering the dual EGR coolers. The EGR gases are then mixed with air from the intercooler at the inlet to the upper intake manifold.
