To get enough air in and out, and make quadruple-digit horsepower in the process, Billy had Area Diesel Performance of Carlinville, Illinois, build the 3-inch-diameter non-wastegated turbo that makes 55-56 pounds of boost. To maximize airflow, he decided to mount the charger in front of the engine. This required building the custom intake manifold that surrounds the injection pump. The exhaust manifolds required unique crafting as well. They were built out of 2-inch Weldbend pipe and, at 3/16-inch thick, Billy was convinced that they would be durable enough to stand up to high exhaust gas temps. According to the truck's Corsa data logger, 1,600-degree EGTs are the norm, not bad considering the engine turns 6,500 rpm while pulling. Billy's modest guess on the power his Ford makes is between 1,000 and 1,200 hp.
Getting all this power to the ground was his next concern. Like most serious pullers, he went with the one-speed Pro Fab Reverser transmission and drop box transfer case. A Haisley Machine dual-disc centrifugal clutch transfers power from the 7.3L to the transmission and sits in a custom bellhousing Billy fabricated. A custom driveline feeds into a 2 1/2-ton Rockwell in the rear equipped with 5.38 gears. The frame and front Dana 60 were retained from the stock F-250, but he threw in a spool to permanently lock the axles together.
