Some people get involved in sports like sled pulling as a passing interest. They may have fun for a year or two, but then they get out while they still have their money and sanity. For others like Scott Vorhees, pulling became all-consuming. In fact, Scott liked pulling so much that he transformed his regular driver into the "Big Bad Dodge," our Oct. '06 cover truck. After the Dodge toasted an engine, rather than quitting, Scott looked to make his truck better. He found an awesome Cummins engine for sale, and while in negotiations, decided he would buy the whole pulling truck instead.
The truck that Scott purchased is the one you see here. The custom all-steel tilt body '06 Ford Super Duty was outfitted with a complete Steve Barker tube chassis along with Lexan windows and a custom aluminum interior. Built by Watson Performance Engineering, the truck features craftsmanship that is second to none. And while it wasn't a Dodge, Scott overlooked that fact due to its Cummins powerplant.

The engine isn't just any Cummins though, rather it is a fire-breathing monster that has been dyno'd at 1,800 horsepower. The block was bored and filled with Hard Blok, and the bottom end has a stud girdle, marine rods, and 14mm studs. The head was fire-ringed and ported to within an inch of its life. Special low-compression Aries pistons are used so that a greater volume of air and fuel can be compressed into the cylinders. Scheid Diesel supplied many of the power-producing parts: including the camshaft, injection pump, injectors, and water injection system. The turbos are custom, an S-400 over a HC5A, and provide almost 150 psi of boost to the engine. A Corsa Data Acquisition system keeps tabs on all the vitals.
