2006 Ford F-550 Cummins - Tow King

Alcoa wheels (19.5-inch and 10-lugs) are wrapped with Kumho 265/70-series Power Fleet 937 all-steel radial tires.

The Pro Line flatbed is equipped with a 100-gallon diesel tank (filled with on-road diesel so Rick can fill his equipment and his truck), cargo compartments, and a recessed trailer hitch for the constant towing duty performed by this F-550.

The floor panel looks factory, but like the rest of the truck, it's custom. Using the Dodge transmission required moving the shifter back about 6 inches, so a carpet kit for an automatic Super Duty was cut up.

Auto World completed a very clean swap, removing the V-8 Ford engine and replacing it with a 24-valve 5.9L Cummins inline-six cylinder powerplant.

The twin turbos from Ponci's Diesel Center (S300 and K31) provide constant boost at all engine speeds while managing to keep the exhaust system cool when the F-550 is pulling heavy loads up steep grades, such as Donner Pass.

A PacBrake exhaust brake is downstream from the bottom turbo and is activated by a toggle switch on the dash.

The Super Duty came with 4.88 gears, so a US Gear Overdrive unit was installed before the Ford transfer case. It provides an Overdrive gear for every speed in the Dodge transmission (for a total of 12 speeds) and is operated by a mechanical knob on the shifter.

A 4-inch lift for an F-350 diesel was modified to give this Cummins Super Duty extra clearance over the 19.5-inch Alcoa wheels and Kumho tires.

The giant rear axle is a Dana 110. Lift blocks raise the rear of the truck by 4 inches.

One of the earth-movers towed by the F-550 for Newland Drilling is this diesel-powered Case 580 Super M+.

Like it's puller, the backhoe is equipped with a turbocharged Cummins engine. The 445T/M2 is a 4.5L four-cylinder engine that's good for 90 hp at 2,200 rpm and a stout 298 lb-ft of torque.

Rick says he's thinking about upgrading the engine in it too.
