While it's cool to build a powerful diesel, Tom prides himself on the truck's usefulness. He tows regularly to play in the sand dunes on weekends (a 300-mile round-trip) but can also be found at Rocky Mountain Raceway, where the truck has run a 13.19-second quarter-mile time at 104 mph-despite its 7,780-pound heft. Tom's also known for competing in the 2.6 class at sled pulls, and he usually finishes toward the top. Yes, Tom's '05 Dodge certainly does it all, and does it well.

The traction bars were a project for Tom himself, as he designed and then welded them up in his garage when he had some spare time. | The real key to making 650... The real key to making 650 hp is the Industrial Injection 64mm turbocharger. It can spool quick enough for towing, yet moves enough air for plenty of power at the track. | We mentioned that Tom tows,... We mentioned that Tom tows, right? That means the load must be supported, which is handled by a set of aftermarket airbags. |
The front links are noticeably... The front links are noticeably longer thanks to the 6-inch Tough Country suspension lift. Still, the truck's higher stance has created no traction or driveline issues at the dragstrip or on the pulling track. | The exhaust is a full 5-inch... The exhaust is a full 5-inch turbo-back system and ends in an 8-inch miter-cut stack built by SBS Diesel, out of-you guessed it-Salt Lake City, Utah. | A set of 37x13.50R22 Toyo... A set of 37x13.50R22 Toyo Mud Terrains and 22x11 Drive wheels make the truck stand out in a crowd, yet still provide excellent traction on and off the road. |
