In order to get 1,500 lb-ft through the G56 six-speed manual transmission and to the ground on a regular basis, Jason went with a South Bend 3850 dual-disc clutch. And, while the clutch has proven bulletproof so far, the same can't be said for the transmission. He's experienced two major failures at the current power level, both occurring at sled pulls. The first was a broken counter shaft, while the second was a more common problem found when high-powered common-rails hook to a sled: Second gear disintegrating when pulling in 4-Hi. Because of his inability to kick his sled pull habit, Jason has recently decided to try an NV5600 behind the healthy Cummins.
As if the wild twin setup wasn't enough, the Mega Cab is lifted 6 inches courtesy of Top Gun Customz and Tuff Country shocks. Aggressive 37x13.50R20 Pro Comp X-Terrains mounted on 20-inch Diamo wheels help further set the truck apart from the rest of the crowd.
While his Dodge is lifted and appeared shipshape for our photo shoot, it's no dyno or show queen. This was evident when it showed up at Sun Coast Coverters' annual open house in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, with another Dodge in tow. There aren't a whole lot of enthusiasts out there that are convinced an 800hp truck can be as versatile as it was in stock form, but Jason is. We wouldn't be surprised if his daily driver makes even more noise in the diesel community in the near future, and it will more than likely do so with four-digit horsepower under the hood.
While strapped to NADM's mobile... While strapped to NADM's mobile dyno at Sun Coast's open house, Jason's 1,490 lb-ft of torque was the most made. The truck's 823.9hp number was also the highest on fuel only. | | Jason is a big fan of manual... Jason is a big fan of manual transmissions, and in the age of built automatics, triple-disc converters, and performance valvebodies, it's nice to see a standard shift truck for a change. |
