Bob bolted on the big three...
Bob bolted on the big three of diesel power adders for his 6.7L Cummins: aftermarket exhaust, intake, and module. The AEM Brute Force HD intake relies on a cleanable Dryflow filter made of synthetic material. Mounted by the washer fluid reservoir is an Edge Juice module. It hijacks signals between the PCM and engine to add power, and under some driving conditions, fuel economy.
Improved aspiration is maximized by an Edge Juice with an Attitude module/monitor. The kit's Attitude monitor/controller displays a variety of powertrain vitals, functioning as an aftermarket gauge pack. It also captures acceleration times and even recalibrates the speed sensor for non-stock tire sizes and axle gearing. A user-programmable turbo timer is one of many built-in powertrain safeguards. For highway commuting, Bob chooses to run in Level 3. This adds an Edge-claimed 50 hp and 120 lb-ft of torque. Because the Juice module raises the fuel rail pressure for better atomization/combustion efficiency, Bob estimates that he gains up to three extra mpg when cruising conservatively in Level 3.
A PAINTER'S TANGERINE DREAMThe exterior is a different story. One of Bob's old friends, legendary custom painter Pete Santini, looked at the big black Ram and saw a huge sheetmetal canvas. What he didn't see was that the truck was too long for his booth at Santini Paint & Body in Westminster, California. Being a consummate pro, Pete dangled the front fenders out of the booth. Because Santini painted the truck on the only day it happened to rain in Southern California in Spring 2008, he had to put a heat lamp on the out-of-the-booth fenders to get the hardeners to kick.
Front lift comes from Superlift...
Front lift comes from Superlift 6-inch springs, a track bar relocation bracket, extended swaybar links, and Kevlar-lined braided-steel brake hoses. The dual steering stabilizer kit bracket and an Extreme Ring differential cover were powdercoated silver to match the shocks and stabilizers.
Paint is from the House of Kolor. Santini shot a Sunburst Orange base, then played around with Mystic Tangerine, Tangelo Pearl, and Candy Brandywine. Pinstriping was done by freelance artist Dennis Rickless.A little aftermarket bling was added at PDC Motorsports to accentuate the custom paint. Billet bolt-ons include a Carriage Works grille and AMI door and tailgate handles. Bob created a brushed aluminum-grille surround effect by buffing off the OE chrome with a Scotchbrite pad before Santini hit it with clearcoat. Finally, the coveted Bestop/AMP Research PowerSteps are the stealth solution to tall-tire ingress/egress.
Bob is happy with the way his Ram turned out. It's comfortable for logging thousands of freeway miles, and can take five 4x4 shop guys and the driver out to lunch. On weekends when Bob is home, he can load up his kids and the family quads and have plenty of cooler space leftover.
These triple-shock mounts... These triple-shock mounts accommodate a single tube in the factory position and two additional cylinders on the hoop. The Superlift remote-reservoir SSR monotube shocks were lightly valved to control the big tires without creating a choppy ride. | Pro Comp 37x12.50R20 rolling... Pro Comp 37x12.50R20 rolling stock is used on all four corners. | The Innovative Customs frame... The Innovative Customs frame stretch isn't obvious. The spliced pieces have twice the wall thickness of the OE channel stock, and an extra crossmember adds stability. Attached to the frame and the axletubes, the Superlift Torque Max SS traction bars are threaded so that they can articulate while controlling wheelhop. |
