Remember Trenton's towing EGT issues at the beginning of the story? Well, he was still having them. With an upgraded injection pump off an '06 LBZ Duramax, he could hit 1,800 degrees at the end of the dragstrip. Since Trenton did most of his towing at high elevations, he decided there was no way around it--he simply needed more air. Because he was already running an S300, Trenton was one of the first people in line for an S300 and S400 compound turbo system, courtesy of Maximized Performance Inc--or MPI for short. A low-pressure turbo with an 80mm inducer was added in addition to the S300 already on the truck, and the difference was amazing. Trenton dipped into the low 12.30s and saw a peak of 1,250 degrees at the end of the dragstrip. When towing, the difference was also like night and day. "The loose converter helps the turbos spool up, and after that I can keep my foot to the floor on my tow tune and not see anything above 1,100 degrees," says Trenton. The lesson here? Never give up on your goal of a diesel truck that can tow well. You might just end up with a blindingly quick ride in the process.
