You may recognize the Force Protection Buffalo MPCV (Mine-Protected Clearance Vehicle) from its role as the vehicle of choice for the evil "Bonecrusher" in the hit movie Transformers. The real-life version can't change into a freeway-skating, bus-smashing robot, but it does have important work to do on the battlefields in Iraq and Afghanistan. The actual Buffalo MPCV is inhabited by a 400hp/1,450 lb-ft Mack diesel engine, a heavily armored 6x6 that's designed to clear hazards and take direct blasts from land mines and other explosive devices without skipping a beat. The MPCV is covered in body armor with blast-proof glass, and has bomb-proof wheels fitted with 52-inch tires and giant plates to protect the transfer case and drivetrain from explosions. Each Buffalo MPCV is also equipped with an extendable 30-foot robotic arm with a video system, sensory equipment, and an iron claw that allows the examination of potential threats while the crew is safe inside the protective hull.
