The 4-Wheel Jamboree in Indianapolis, Indiana, presented by Family Events, is known to bring in thousands of truck and off-road enthusiasts year after year. When it was declared that one of its sister events, the 3rd annual 4-Wheel Jamboree held in Springfield, Illinois, would be hosting a diesel sled pull event in 2009, we quickly marked it on our calendars.
An event still in its infancy, this year's attraction showed plenty of promise for future growth, and with a sled pull put on by the National Association of Diesel Motorsports, a mobile dyno, and dozens of aftermarket vendors on hand, we were pleased to see how many diesel-powered vehicles attended. Here's a look at yet another venue where diesels showed up, competed, and put on a great show in front of the masses.
On a hot, humid weekend, this... On a hot, humid weekend, this first-generation Cummins arrived sporting a gigantic set of Michelins, and a group from Missouri that found a nice spot in the shade. We like their staircase strategy. There's nothing like needing a stepladder to get into your truck. | DynoTune Mobile Chassis Dyno... DynoTune Mobile Chassis Dyno Service hauled its Dynojet all the way from Watertown, South Dakota, and while the turnout was somewhat small, the majority of vehicles dyno'd were diesel trucks. Judging by the crowds we saw form while diesels were strapped to the dyno, word is definitely out that they can make big power-easily. | Much like the 4-Wheel Jamboree... Much like the 4-Wheel Jamboree held in Indianapolis, lifted diesels ran rampant at Springfield's event. While browsing around, we ran into these three 7.3L Power Strokes. The Super Duty in the center, owned by Brent Rhoads, sported 25 inches of lift, 46-inch Mickey Thompson Baja Claws, and crossover steering. |
We aren't afraid to admit... We aren't afraid to admit it, we were a little jealous of this old-body-style Ford Power Stroke. We're also big fans of older trucks kept pristinely clean, and who doesn't love Interco's Super Swamper TSL Boggers? | Mickey Thompson's new 54-inch... Mickey Thompson's new 54-inch Baja Claw TTC was on display all weekend. The folks at Mickey Thompson told us each unit weighs 201 pounds, the tire performed excellent at Four Wheeler magazine's Top Truck Challenge, and it will be available by the time you read this. | No different than any other... No different than any other event, plenty of bench racing went on among brand loyalists. However, there was no questioning this '05 Dodge's 495hp dyno run with only an air intake, exhaust stacks, and a Bully Dog programmer. |
