The Lone Ford
This 6.0L Power Stroke was loaded down with a crew that traveled more than four hours to see diesel drag racing. They, like us, were disappointed with the cancellation, but ended up having a blast. This was the only Ford brave enough to strap to the dyno with so many healthy Duramax engines and high-horsepower Dodges in attendance. While it didn't melt the dyno, it did lay down more than 400 horsepower, despite only having an air intake, 4-inch exhaust, and SCT tuner with tuning from Elite Diesel.
Unorthodox Nitrous Delivery
Boys weren't the only ones making big power numbers on the dyno. This '01 Ram 2500 laid down a healthy 349 hp on fuel only before the driver, Anna Calkins, opted for a little go juice. Actually, a little is quite an understatement. With the lid pulled off the airbox, and the go-ahead from Anna, Bobby Ezell of 5E Diesel Innovations, cracked open a 10-pound NOS bottle and helped the 24-valve make an additional 203 hp! While we don't mind nitrous, we certainly don't promote this method of adding power, so don't try it at home!
And, as this may seem a little crazy, it actually started a trend. A subsequent truck was fed by two bottles-with the truck owner's permission, of course. By the end of the night, a few spectators were actually wondering how much nitrous a factory Holset turbocharger could handle before completely disintegrating.
