Quite a few of the trucks...
Quite a few of the trucks on the dyno this year were outfitted with twin turbochargers. Lance Racke had one of these trucks and laid down 544 hp and 981 lb-ft of torque on his run.
Diesel Showdown
Next up was Cody Black in what was probably the scariest truck of the weekend. Black pulled his 300,000-mile '93 Dodge farm truck onto the rollers. With the go big or go home attitude, he had spent the previous three days putting everything he could onto the truck, which included upgrading to 73 liter-per-minute injectors, a K31 turbo, two stages of nitrous, a custom 12-valve camshaft by Hamilton Cams, and some mild port work to the head.
As Black began his dyno run, the ART staff, who were very concerned for everyone's safety, made sure that if anything happened no one would get hurt. They cleared the building and asked everyone to step back. With a cloud of soot, Black laid down 774 hp, landing him in the top spot.
Cody Allen, from Death Row...
Cody Allen, from Death Row Diesel, hit the 350hp mark right on the nose, landing him a nice $100 check from BD Power. As you can see in the photo, the staff at American Racing Technology put these exhaust tubes on the stacks to direct the smoke out of the building.
Pleased with his performance and knowing he was on top, he decided not to run again. Black hoped that his number would hold up and he would be able to drive back home. Then it was Justin Farrell's turn to go.
As Farrell prepped his truck, he knew the number he needed to beat. Farrell had laid down 657 hp the day before on fuel only and knew he had a good chance of winning the competition. So he changed the jets in his nitrous system and pulled in. The crowd followed him in, wondering if Farrell had enough to beat Black. Farrell's truck made an 823hp run and beat Black after making just a single pull.
Farrell was in First Place but knew there was a possibility that Black would come back in and try to beat it, so he decided to see if he could top his own record. His second run (only 797 hp) proved his truck had already given him everything it could.
Not wanting to be one-upped, Black returned to the dyno to make his final pull. The crowd drew as close as they were allowed because they knew this was either going to be an incredible run, or the ART facility was going to be filled with incredible carnage. Black didn't disappoint-as he did both.
