Custom Big Rig Truck Show - Chrome Show

Bill Sandvik's unique 400,000-mile Peterbilt was parked in front of 75 Chrome. Every inch of the truck was detailed with custom paint and acres of chrome. The meticulous work extended under the hood with a polished turbocharged engine, and into the cab with luxurious upholstery, a marble tile floor, custom seats, a full instrument panel, and wood trim accents.

Although it looks brand-new, this 10-year-old Peterbilt 379 was outfitted with a long list of body modifications including custom paint, a full audiovisual entertainment system with monitors in the side doors, elaborate custom wheels, and a unique display stand listing all its upgrades.

Old School is an '86 Peterbilt owned by Ronnie and Tonya Adams of Adams Motor Express in Carnesville, Georgia, and decked out in custom paint and cool chrome, with a 425 Cat under the hood.

The truck uses air springs for a low profile, and the front bumper pivots forward on air cylinders to help clear steep driveways. The Diorios won Best of Show in the Combination, Limited Mileage class.

Vinnie and Kim Diorio own this Omaha Orange and Slate Gray Metallic '05 379 Peterbilt with a 550 Cat under the hood. Although the truck used to work every day and has 251,000 miles on it, it has been semiretired to the show circuit. The entire interior was gutted and replaced with a new aluminum dashboard, minimal instruments, custom seats, and a carefully upholstered rear sleeping compartment.

Brad says the fuel crunch is starting to affect him though. Filling up his tank to the three-quarter level the other day cost him $560. Last year, that price would have only been about $350. He said he gets about 700 miles on a tank of fuel and typically runs about 800 miles a day.

Brad took a Best of Show trophy with him, winning the Working Combination class.

Brad Caton's custom-painted '07 Peterbilt 379, with its highly detailed interior, is a working truck that was scheduled to haul a load of feed immediately after the event to Minnesota.

Ryan Danylchuk owns this purple and Orange Glow '01 Peterbilt 379 Long Hood with 900,000 miles. He's based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and regularly delivers to Jacksonville, Florida. Look inside and you'll see a dashboard reminiscent of a Boeing 747, complete with multiple CBs so that he can listen on one and talk on the other. The button-tuck interior features matching satin sheets in the sleeper. Ryan took a Best of Show trophy back to Canada for the Bobtail, Limited Mileage category.

Beatty Body Works displayed its two-tone green '08 International 9900ix. It's a custom truck that any owner/driver can special order. This one featured a cab lowered 4 inches, an air-ride suspension, fenders extended at the back of the hood, a raised rear suspension, a custom interior, 1,500-watt stereo, a 550hp Cat C-15 engine, and impressive Dynaflex 7-inch stacks.

Bob Brinker chose a pirate theme in memory of his older daughter Amie who passed away. She was an avid Johnny Depp fan and his '02 Freightliner was created as a tribute to her. With 911,000 miles on it, this hardworking truck hauls a drop deck out of northern Michigan. Bob is very proud of his truck that was featured in Diesel Power ("The Black Pearl," Nov. '06). He captured Best of Show in the Bobtail, Working class.
