Getting ready for a motorsport competition is a lot like studying for a high school math test. You can cram the night before and hope you do OK. Or, you can plan for the event weeks in advance, study, practice, and prepare-and on the day of the test or race, you'll be ready for anything.

Whether you're sled pulling, drag racing, or entering a dyno event, the amount of time you put into preparing is just as important as what you do when you get to the track. In other words, the competition starts long before the day of the race. the guys who win every week know this all too well. those who struggle just to get their truck to run right on the day of the event have often lost before the green flag gets waved. If we were all professional racers, we'd get paid to build and prepare our race vehicles. In the real world, though, race vehicles often get prepped in the days-sometimes hours-before the event. that's often how it goes down for the team behind the Cummins-powered Project X Dodge Ram 2500.

Kirk Manuel, Charlie Stewart, Greg hogue, James Roll, Cory Daniels, Robert "Bert" Daniel, and Anna Calkins have worked into the early morning hours prepping Project X more times than they care to remember. We spent one very long night with them as they got Project X raceready for an NHRA drag race event to show you what it takes.
