Elimination rounds whittled down the field until James Brendle, Rick Becker, Kolton King, and Jarid Vollmer won in their respective classes. Then there were some exhibition passes by the Bully Dog shop trucks, including the Diesel Infrerno that put more than 850 hp to the dyno wheel earlier in the day. An awards ceremony followed the dirt drags and cash was handed out to winners by the folks of Bully Dog. Make some time in next year's summer schedule so you can attend the Dog Days and get your name and numbers up on the Wall of Fame above the Bully Dog dyno.
845hp Work TruckDamian Reese shocked the crowd when his '01 Ram work truck blasted the dyno roller with 845 hp and 1,434 lb-ft of torque. A crowd quickly gathered around, and he pulled the 31/44-ton outside. Damian was not afraid of sharing his diesel power secrets with the crowd and popped his hood. He says the big dyno numbers are the result of a B1 turbo, ATS three-piece manifold and Arc intake, an AFE Stage 2 air filter, 225hp Mass Diesel injectors, a Snow Stage 2 water/methanol injection setup, TS Performance dual-stage nitrous injection, an Edge Juice with Attitude programmer, 12mm head studs, a 5-inch Diamondeye exhaust, and an ATS transmission with the 5-Star torque converter. If you were walking through a parking lot and saw the scratches and equipment in the bed and the cracked windshield (what's with all the busted front glass in Idaho?), you'd never think this work truck sleeper was packing so much diesel power.
This blue-flamed Chevy made some of the best runs down the horse track and made it through multiple rounds in the heads-up drag racing. In this pass, the white Super Duty was not too far behind when the Bow Tie crossed the finish line. | | |
945hp "Fummins" F-350The winner of the dyno competition was a '95 Ford F-350 with a Cummins swap built by Richard "Mad Dog" Madsen. He barely got through the front gate before children and adults started swarming around his unique dual-turbo rig. On its first run on the dyno, Mad Dog got applause from the largest crowd of the day when his daily-driven truck posted a score of 945 hp. There's no telling how soon he will start making four-digit horsepower numbers with this truck that doesn't need to be trailered.
