Our goal is simple. Diesel Power is on a quest to locate the most powerful and versatile diesel trucks in North America. Every year, we invite our readers to submit their diesel-powered daily drivers, work trucks, and race trucks to our tests of torque, durability, and efficiency. This year, hundreds of you answered the call and flooded our offices with entry forms, tech specs, and pictures of your pride and joy.
From the entries we received, 15 competitors from both coasts were invited to come together in Salt Lake City to wage diesel-powered war on the dyno, the dragstrip, a 10,000-pound trailer, the sled pull, and the open road. To keep things interesting, we also brought back last year's East and West Coast Diesel Power Challenge champions, Micheal Tomac and Nick D'Amico, to see how this year's group stacked up against the benchmark set by two very powerful Duramax trucks.
Suffice it to say, this year's competition was more intense and had far more casualties than ever before. Of the 17 competitors we invited, five of them broke before they left for Salt Lake City. One broke his truck on the road. And the reigning West Coast champ, Nick D'Amico, made it all the way to Utah, only to blow up a series of transmissions as he attempted to dial in his powerful new engine combination. This competition isn't for the weak of heart.
To set the stage for this event, we showcased each competitor and his truck in last month's issue. In this issue, we'll bring you the play-by-play of all the action, destruction, and triumph that took place under the blazing sun at Rocky Mountain Raceway.
