The first competitor from Team GM to provide us with an update is Owen Horst, of Clarkrange, Tennessee. His '06 GMC Sierra 2500HD is perhaps the biggest sleeper entered in Diesel Power Challenge 2010. When we ran into him at this year's annual Sun Coast dyno event in Florida (event coverage will be in the June issue) the truck sat stock and on a subtle set of wheels and tires, and even had a camper shell in the bed. Contradicting its factory looks, Horst's GMC has a lot of grunt under the hood. We witnessed the single turbo'd Duramax lay down more than 750 hp on fuel, and 950+ on the rollers last month. Even more impressive, the truck put down more than 1,700 lb-ft on this same dyno run. As far as we know, Owen isn't going to change much in his current, reliable setup, but he clued us in on what subtle changes he's doing before next month's showdown: Diesel Power: What changes do you plan to make to the truck before showing up in Bowling Green? Owen Horst: "I am going to go through the transmission and the rest of the truck. I don't know of any other changes I will make yet-but I might run the exhaust out the bed to make it nicer on the photographers and other competitors." By Mike McGlothlin Enjoyed this Post?
